16 Highgate must make the transition between the density of the buildings on Cambridge Street and the existing adjacent residential scale buildings. To achieve this we first pushed the street face of the building back so that it would align with the street modal. By pushing the front façade back 25’ we also created a green space which can be use by both the residents and the neighborhood. Diagrammatically the building is conceived as a wood inner volume and a brick shell. The brick shell is peeled away in layers to expose the wood inner volume.

This project is one of six buildings containing 9 residential rental units, and is part of the Allston Square master plan that Embarc recently took through the permitting process with the development team and council.
