This mixed use building includes an English as a second language school at the street level and residential units above. We wanted to articulate the two programs differently. The base is primarily glass but above that floats a “cloud” of wood fins. To reinforce the idea of this floating cloud of wood fins, the fins taper and are flipped from top to bottom to collectively imply a curved and waving façade. The deck and windows then piece the cloud and interrupt the implied surface giving them greater importance.
